SAN DIEGO, California – Each spring, the marine layer takes over San Diego, and a coolness sweeps through the region. It is this coolness that fosters a lush, green coastline, where birds mingle in marshlands that seem to preserve another time.

It is this enviro that hosts a gentle people, friendly and good-natured. None of that SoCal that creeps in from neighboring terrain. It is here that you can see The Flower Fields, so-called for decades in this part. While some might know about the tulips in the Netherlands, people here know about the ranunculus in The Flower Fields.
Generations of family stroll along these dirt paths and see the fields of color, with the sea as its backdrop.

Then, go past the fish taco stands that attract the tourists. Past the indie bookstores that dot the region.
Just past the tidal pools are areas teeming with wildlife, humans alike. The sea lions scatter throughout La Jolla Cove, at times sunbathing and at times play-fighting. They are not the sole rulers of the area, though, as sea gulls and pelicans stand in watch.
The streets are quiet. Even on Easter weekend, it is the locals that come to the family-owned small cafe, and the stray visitor, ordering their requisite bunny-shaped cookies, these flour treats coloring the world in light pink and blue.
